“Rubutz!”, originally uploaded by Emil Rodeo. When I was eight or nine my imaginary friend was a robot called Rupert. He had flashing lights, two antennas and was about the size of a large cat. Rupert motored around our house using a similar technology to “wheelies” and couldn’t be seen by my Mum because of his invisibilty shield.
Rupert stayed with me until I lost him one day when my Mum took me to Brighton for my 11th birthday. Rupert was following the train but ran into a bridge and got smashed. I remember thinking I should of asked my Mum to buy him a ticket so he could ride on the train with us.
Above is a crude drawing of Rupert I did recently whilst on the phone. I was talking to a friend and somehow managed to doodle Rupert without even thinking about it. Can you remember any good imaginary friends?

Rupert is a good name for an imaginary friend. When I was a kid, I tried to have imaginary friends but I would forget about them and they would end up lost and forgotten.. I think I just preferred being alone.
